Questions Abut Slavery:
Why were slaves important to the economy?
Slaves were very important to the economy because they did much more than half the work in early America.
What type of jobs did slaves do?
Slaves did most of the farming in the southern colonies. The main cash crops they grew were tobacco, cotton, rice, and indigo.
How do you think the slaves felt about their situation?
Slaves were probably sad and angry because they had no choice, were treated cruelly, got no pay, and had to work constantly all day. They were also often split from their families.
Why was slavery wrong?
Slavery was wrong because of all the things I just listed above. These were real people that were forced to work for the colonists and were treated like animals.
What alternatives to slavery were there?
There really were no alternatives to slavery. They needed people there who could work. So by more people coming to America they would have more workers, but these workers that came would be busy working on their own farms so it wouldn't help those that needed more workers.
